Mike Vilhauer's story

When Mike Vilhauer was out fishing in California, he was lost in the woods for a week. He had lost track of his destination and had begun to return too late. For protection from the sun, he huddled beneath a pine tree. He was hungry and dehydrated the next morning so he drank out of puddles. He wandered around the streets trying to find an escape route, but he was unsuccessful.

After five days of hiking in the mountains, Mike had a revelation: He realized he was completely lost and needed help. He wrote to his loved ones explaining his dilemma and apologizing. He saw a helicopter flying overhead on the morning of August 10. He swung his arms in the air to attract the attention of the pilot, who spotted him and alerted the search and rescue crews to his location. His story was broadcast on national television, with rescuers arriving from at least eight to nine counties, including Nevada.

Adrian Knopps' story

Knopps had lost his friend and was now alone in Alaskan wilderness. Knopps had lost his partner and fled into the wild, leaving Knopps alone with wolf packs and bears. He was falling into hypothermia, hallucination and was being battered by 70-mph winds. Coast Guard officials stated that they'd not seen anyone survive in such harsh wilderness conditions.
